Protection

Competence and Standards

• Inspection, maintenance and recharging shall only be undertaken by a competent person.
• Follow BS 5306-3 for commissioning and maintenance and BS 5306-8 for selection and positioning.
• Use manufacturer-approved parts, seals, gauges, valves, hose assemblies and extinguishing media.
• Record all work, replacement parts and test results on the service label and maintenance log.

Monthly Visual Check

• Confirm the extinguisher is present, accessible and correctly mounted.
• Check operating instructions are legible and facing outward.
• Check safety pin, anti-tamper device, hose/nozzle and pressure indicator.
• Look for corrosion, impact damage, leakage, obstruction or signs of discharge.

Withdrawal from Service

• Remove from service where pressure, weight, condition or component integrity is unsatisfactory.
• Do not return damaged, corroded, incorrectly labelled or leaking units to the fire point.
• Do not pierce, heat, weld, grind, burn or dispose of pressurised cylinders in a fire.
• Where there is doubt, quarantine the unit and seek manufacturer or specialist advice.

General Safety

• Discharge and depressurise fully before dismantling any stored pressure extinguisher.
• Use suitable PPE and controlled charging equipment.
• Check gauges using a suitable gauge test pump where applicable.
• After reassembly, check for leakage and correct operation before returning to service.

Technical Information

Maintenance Information

• Inspect externally for corrosion, dents, damaged coating and legibility of instructions.
• Confirm the pressure indicator is within the operating range.
• Check hose, nozzle, safety pin, tamper seal, bracket and base.
• Carry out extended service and discharge testing at the correct interval.

Recharge Procedure

1. Discharge and depressurise the unit in a controlled manner.
2. Remove hose assembly and confirm it is clear and undamaged.
3. Open the head assembly only after confirming that all pressure has been released.
4. Empty, rinse and inspect the cylinder internally and externally.
5. Replace seals and damaged parts with approved replacements.
6. Refill to the verified marked capacity and do not overfill.
7. Reassemble, pressurise to the verified operating pressure, leak test and fit tamper seal.

• Extinguishing medium: approved foam concentrate and water mix.

Foam Specific Checks

• Confirm foam concentrate type, quantity, shelf life and compatibility.
• Inspect lining and internal surfaces for corrosion or contamination.
• Flush components where required and avoid mixing incompatible media.
• Dispose of foam solution responsibly in accordance with environmental requirements.

Recharge Procedure

1. Fully discharge and depressurise.
2. Dismantle only when no residual pressure remains.
3. Empty contents into a suitable controlled container.
4. Inspect cylinder lining, neck threads, valve, hose and nozzle.
5. Add clean water and approved foam concentrate to the verified manufacturer quantity.
6. Fit new seals, reassemble and charge to verified operating pressure.
7. Leak test, clean body, refit pin and seal, complete service record.

Technical Information

• Extinguishing medium: carbon dioxide.
• Check tare, gross weight and cylinder test date before service return.
• Fit only approved horns, hoses, valves, O-rings and safety devices.

CO₂ Specific Safety

• Do not hold the discharge horn during operation unless it is an approved frost-free horn.
• Withdraw if weight loss exceeds manufacturer or service standard limits.
• Do not attempt unauthorised filling without approved CO₂ charging equipment.
• Check hydrostatic test requirements and cylinder marking before return to service.

Service Procedure

1. Weigh the complete extinguisher and compare with marked full weight.
2. Inspect cylinder body, shoulder, base, neck and valve for damage or corrosion.
3. Inspect horn or hose assembly for damage, blockage and correct fitment.
4. Check safety pin, tamper indicator and discharge control mechanism.
5. Where refilling is required, use an approved filling station and verify final weight.
6. Complete leakage check, refit safety devices and update the service label.

Powder Specific Checks

• Check for caking, contamination, moisture or loss of free-flowing condition.
• Invert and agitate to loosen powder where permitted by service procedure.
• Check nozzle, hose and dip tube carefully for powder blockage.
• Use only compatible powder type during recharge.

Recharge Procedure

1. Depressurise safely and confirm no residual pressure remains.
2. Open valve assembly using correct tooling and without damaging threads.
3. Empty powder into a dry clean container and assess condition.
4. Clean and inspect cylinder, valve, dip tube, hose and nozzle.
5. Fill with verified mass of approved ABC powder.
6. Replace seals, reassemble, pressurise and check for leakage.
7. Fit safety pin and tamper seal, then return to fire point only after satisfactory checks.

• Model: KFP-WC6, stored pressure wet chemical extinguisher.
• Extinguishing medium: approved wet chemical solution.
• Intended for Class F cooking oil/fat risks where confirmed by approval and label.
• Check lance/nozzle pattern and applicator condition carefully.

Kitchen Risk Checks

• Confirm correct siting near but not directly over the cooking hazard.
• Check instructions are clean, legible and suitable for staff use.
• Check compatibility with any fixed suppression system and local fire strategy.
• Review whether fire blanket provision remains suitable.

Recharge Procedure

1. Depressurise safely before dismantling.
2. Drain contents into an appropriate container and clean the cylinder.
3. Inspect internal surfaces, lining, threads, valve, lance and nozzle assembly.
4. Refill only with approved wet chemical solution to verified capacity.
5. Replace seals and worn parts, reassemble and charge to verified pressure.
6. Check discharge path, leakage and pressure indication before return to service.
